4. Students will express creativity by choosing colours to decorate their table drawing.
### Materials Needed:
- White drawing paper
- Pencils
- Erasers
- Crayons or coloured pencils
- Reference image of a table
- Teacher’s large drawing pad or whiteboard and markers
### Introduction (5 minutes):
1. **Greeting and Settling Down:** Welcome the students warmly and ensure they are seated comfortably.
2. **Engagement Activity:** Show them a small toy table or a real table in the classroom and ask, “What is this?” Allow them to respond and introduce the word “table.”
3. **Discussion:** Briefly discuss the uses of a table. Ask how many legs they think tables usually have. Emphasize the simple parts: the top and the legs.
### Direct Instruction (10 minutes):
1. **Demonstration:** On a large drawing pad or whiteboard, draw a basic table step-by-step:
- Draw a large rectangle or square for the tabletop.
- Draw four straight lines downwards from the corners as legs.
2. **Guided Practice:** Walk students through the steps, encouraging them to mimic the movements on their own papers.
### Guided Practice (10 minutes):
1. **Monitoring and Support:** Circulate the room to assist students with their drawing. Offer help to those struggling and praise those who are doing well. Make sure everyone feels encouraged.
2. **Correction and Encouragement:** Provide simple corrections and positive reinforcement, ensuring everyone understands that it's okay if their table looks a little different.
### Independent Practice (10 minutes):
1. **Colouring Activity:** Provide students with crayons or coloured pencils. Encourage them to choose the colours they like for the table and its legs.
2. **Creativity Encouragement:** Suggest ideas like adding a design to the tabletop or using realistic colours but allow freedom of choice.
### Conclusion and Sharing (5 minutes):
1. **Sharing Session:** Allow a few students to come to the front and show their drawings to the class. Ask them to talk briefly about their colouring choices.
2. **Positive Feedback:** Provide encouragement and positive feedback to each presenter and ask the class to clap for their friends.
### Assessment:
1. **Observation:** Watch for students' engagement and ability to follow the drawing steps.
2. **Finished Drawing:** Check each student's drawing and colouring. Assess whether they were able to draw the top and legs of the table and use colours creatively.
### Closing:
1. **Wrap-Up Discussion:** Ask the students if they enjoyed drawing and colouring the table. Ask if they can name other objects they might find on a table.
2. **Goodbye Song:** Sing a short goodbye song to end the lesson on a positive note.

**Note to Teacher:**
Remember to be patient and give lots of positive reinforcement. Nursery 1 students are at different developmental stages, so the aim is to foster creativity and enjoyment in the activity.
